Tetris 99 is available now for those gamers hardcore enough to step away from Apex Legends and onto a real battlefield. Welcome to the ultimate Tetris experience It was all leading up to this. Whatever that means, it certainly looked abandoned in this recent direct. While it's not surprising to see Nintendo focus more heavily on the Switch, the company did just say in a recent corporate meeting that the 3DS is not abandoned. One thing that was noticeably absent was 3DS news.

Joining Tetris 99 were a host of other promising announcements for Nintendo Switch. In Tetris 99 you compete against 98 other people with time to kill, trading lines with each other as the crowd is. You will find Tetris Royale Mode where you have to battle 99 other players until you are the last man standing, and Solo Marathon where you will rotate Teriminos by yourself and clear lines to beat your own high score. The company (and the Tetris experts at Arika) have made it battle royale-style. It was delisted a year later as N3TWORK merged the game with its regular Tetris app. Tetris®: Battle Royale Mode Trailer - Android/iOSTETRIS®, the official mobile app for the world’s favorite puzzle game. The game was soft launched as a beta in the New Zealand region on March 25, 2019. Which makes sense considering Nintendo charges for online now. In this new version, besides Tetris Primetime Tournaments, Tetris has a few more interesting new modes. Tetris Royale is a battle royale game published by N3TWORK for mobile phones globally excluding China.
As the title indicates, this is a battle royale Tetris game for. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 open tournaments suggest the company is moving towards a bigger online presence. Tetris 99 has clearly generated enough interest too, as N3TWORK and The Tetris Company revealed Tetris Royale for smartphones today. It's unclear if it just meant Tetris 99, although the current Smash Bros. Another thing teased in the trailer is the potential for "events" in Nintendo Switch Online games.
